Planned water supply maintenance: 27 November to 1 December 2023

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be doing planned work in the identified areas, which will result in water supply disruptions. The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused. This critical work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.
Maintenance work – Pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
This work will result in the water supply disruption to these areas:
Part of Goodwood
The water supply to the area bounded by Voortrekker Road, Jakes Gerwel Drive, the railway line and Alice Street will be shut off from 09:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 28 November 2023 and again from 09:00 until 17:00 on Thursday, 30 November 2023. This will enable the maintenance team to do a tie-in of the newly-installed water supply pipeline to the existing infrastructure.
Large part of Gordon's Bay (Dobson)
The water supply to a large part of Gordon's Bay bounded by Sir Lowry's Pass Road, Dennehoek Road, Disa Road and the Coastline will be shut off from 08:00 until 18:00 on Tuesday, 28 November 2023. This will enable the maintenance team to do a tie-in of the newly installed pipe section onto the existing water supply infrastructure. Residents are kindly requested to store enough water in advance for domestic consumption.
Constantia, Plumstead and Meadowridge
The water supply to Burnham Road in Plumstead, Riesling Road and Chateau Circle in Constantia, and Edison Road, Weltevreden Drive and Newton Drive in Meadowridge will be shut off intermittently from 09:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 28 November 2023. This will enable the maintenance team to repair and replace valves and fire hydrants on the water supply network in the area. Adjacent roads may also be affected.
Plumstead and Diep River
The water supply to Coronation Avenue, Princess Vlei Road, Melville Road, Smith Road and Waterford Road in Plumstead, and Myburgh Road, Windsor Avenue, Paddington Road and Mile End North in Diep River will be shut of intermittently from 09:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 28 November 2023. This will enable the maintenance team to repair and replace valves and fire hydrants on the water supply network in the area. Adjacent roads may also be affected.
This work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate's proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programme which ensures the future continuity of water supply by addressing the issue of unaccounted for water.

What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions: - Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
- All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
- Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer.
- For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.
